  • an 18-acre site with 250,000 square feet of building, used as a penitentiary from 1885 to late 1980s in Mansfield, Ohio
  • listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992
  • lead base paint and asbestos remediated throughout facility in 2006 and 2007
  • project funds obtained through private donations; various fund raisers; operations from Halloween and ghost hunt activities; and City of Mansfield's Brownfield Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency
  • redevelopment activities have made this site into a nation-wide community interest point; facility for special events; and the future home of the Ohio Penitentiary Museum
